Online Form
Dear Community Member:
In 2010, Joliet Junior College, Joliet Public Library, Forest Preserve District of Will County, Will County Land Use/Waste Services Division, Joliet Job Corps, City of Joliet and the University of Illinois Extension-Will County collaborated resources and created an annual community event called “GR2010--Celebrating Sustainability.” The goal for this month-long celebration, focusing on healthy families and sustainable communities, was aimed at creating excitement and enthusiasm for healthy lifestyles, green products, services and technologies through environmentally responsible activities of education, empowerment and entertainment.
Last year, GR2011--Celebrating Sustainability featured speakers, a film series, organic food, live music, how-to-workshops, yoga classes and earth-friendly activities for the whole family. Over 4,000 adults and children from our community participated in the month of activities, which culminated with a FREE day-long festival.
Joliet Junior College Foundation is soliciting local stakeholders to assist the nine partner organizations with underwriting the cost of this FREE public event. Sponsorship will provide an excellent opportunity for you to market your business to the local community in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly way. We need your support in making GR2012-Celebrating Sustainability another successful first-class event.
Exhibitors
Once again, several area organizations are partnering to host a sustainability festival that allows the public to enjoy a day of free exhibits, demonstrations, entertainment and many other activities geared to helping families live healthy and sustainable lifestyles. The partners are also pleased to announce that Joliet Junior College has agreed to host this very popular event on their campus, Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (rain or shine), allowing us to grow and expand this event in order to accommodate more people and activities.
Thousands of people from the southwest suburbs have attended this event, therefore; we would like to invite you and your organization to join us and share your message of sustainability with the community during the exhibition hours between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m (rain or shine). We are asking that exhibitors engage the public with an interactive experience or hands-on activity, and we are also asking exhibitors to help defray the costs of this event by agreeing to pay a small fee based on the size of your organization. With the exception of food, sales will be permitted, but, please review the exhibitor form for rates and further details.
If you wish to participate, please submit the exhibitor form online no later than May 1, 2012. Please include a detailed description of your exhibit, demonstration or activity and be aware that submission does not guarantee acceptance and is subject to review by the committee.
If your exhibitor form is accepted for GR2012, a confirmation note will be sent to you along with more specific information, any restrictions, and you will be assigned a location.
Thank you for your consideration in regards to participating in GR2012. Your presence at this event will enable us to share the importance of the sustainability message and help ensure a healthy and sustainable future for our community.
Sincerely,
The GR2012: Celebrating Sustainability Committee & Partners

| 11 A.M. | T1000 | Vanishing of the Bees Honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, literally vanishing from their hives. Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, this phenomenon has brought beekeepers to crisis in an industry responsible for producing apples, broccoli, watermelon, onions, cherries and a hundred other fruits and vegetables. Commercial honeybee operations pollinate crops that make up one out of every three bites of food on our tables.Vanishing of the Bees follows commercial beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes as they strive to keep their bees healthy and fulfill pollination contracts across the U.S. The film explores the struggles they face as the two friends plead their case on Capital Hill and travel across the Pacific Ocean in the quest to protect their honeybees. As scientists puzzle over the cause, organic beekeepers indicate alternative reasons for this tragic loss. Conflicting options abound and after years of research, a definitive answer has not been found to this harrowing mystery. |
| 2 P.M. | T1000 | Tapped Is access to clean drinking water a basic human right, or a commodity that should be bought and sold like any other article of commerce? Stephanie Soechtig's debut feature is an unflinching examination of the big business of bottled water. |

Dear Art Educator,
We are writing to invite your students to participate in the GR2012 Celebrating Sustainability Student Art Exhibit which will be held May 1 through May 19, 2012! The art will be exhibited at Gallery 7 in downtown Joliet and at the Joliet Junior College Main Campus. The exhibit is in conjunction with the GR2012 Celebrating Sustainability Festival, which celebrates and explores sustainable practices, technologies and initiatives happening in and around Will County.
Click here for a Call for Entry outlining specific details about the exhibit, including artwork drop off dates, a printable entry form. So that we can plan effectively, please respond to us via email by March 7th at ekendrot@jjc.edu if you are interested in participating.
For the exhibit, we are seeking student artwork exploring the topics of “sustainability” and “sustainable communities.” The project is a great opportunity to create dialogue about environmental issues, to celebrate Earth Day (April 22nd), to connect students to the greater community, and to address topics such as healthy eating. Project possibilities are basically endless in both topic and material (although the art must incorporate re-used or sustainable materials).
Some project ideas to consider are: creating jewelry from bottles, cans, bags and other recyclables; using photography to document the environs of students’ communities, creating artwork from found natural materials; making posters celebrating Earth Day; creating animal menageries from plastics and other recyclables; creating drawings or paintings about farmland and habitat loss or global warming; creating maps to explore open land preservation and urban planning; creating mixed media sculptures from old toys; using found papers to create collages…. If you need assistance planning a project, we can help!
On behalf of GR2012,
Elise Kendrot Eric Gorder
Art Instructor, Joliet Junior College Assistant Professor of Art, Joliet Junior College
